This is an old trick I learned from my dad when I was a boy. For some scientific reason the manufacturers of shotgun cleaning kits provide copper wire brushes and bore cleaners. This has always seemed to clean the gun well.
A Rusty Situation
As I’ve mentioned before I hunt waterfowl a lot. Typically my gun gets wet and sometimes can show rust even before I get back to the vehicle. If you have a gun with bluing on it you can manage small rust spots by spraying a small amount of Nitro Solvent and using the thin edge of a shiny copper penny to gently rub it away. Works every time. Give it a try.
Post comments if you have a good idea for cleaning the rust off of your prized possession.
Boresnake by Hoppe’s is one of the fastest and surest ways to clean your shotgun’s barrel. The Boresnake comes equipped with two bronze brushes embedded in it as well as 160x the swiping of a regular swab from a standard gun cleaning kit.
Anytime you clean your shotgun barrel with any gun cleaning kit it is recommended that you swipe it in the same direction that shots are fired from your shotgun. Two to three swipes through your barrel with the Hoppe’s Boresnake will leave it super clean. Watch the video below to see it in action.
