Clean the Rust off of the Bluing on your Shotgun Barrel with a Penny

penny 300x289 Clean the Rust off of the Bluing on your Shotgun Barrel with a PennyThis is an old trick I learned from my dad when I was a boy.  For some scientific reason the manufacturers of shotgun cleaning kits provide copper wire brushes and bore cleaners. This has always seemed to clean the gun well.

A Rusty Situation

As I’ve mentioned before I hunt waterfowl a lot.  Typically my gun gets wet and sometimes can show rust even before I get back to the vehicle.  If you have a gun with bluing on it you can manage small rust spots by spraying a small amount of Nitro Solvent and using the thin edge of a shiny copper penny to gently rub it away.  Works every time.  Give it a try.

Post comments if you have a good idea for cleaning the rust off of your prized possession.
